    Clarks

    Sales Assistant

Whilst working in Clarks I was mainly based on the kids department. This included measuring infant to children’s feet and then helping them find a pair of shoes that were the best fitting for them. During my time at Clarks I worked in 2 back to schools which is known to be the busiest time in Clarks, especially in the kids department. This meant that I had to be able to work at a fast pace so we were able to get through the customers as quick as possible, however we still had to make sure that the child was getting the perfect shoe for them. It is a lot of responsibility as if a child left with ill fitting shoes then it could possibly damage their feet and hurt them.

I also helped out on tills sometimes when they were busy giving me the knowledge of how to use them, and also I helped with stock so replenishing the stock room and making sure we have what we need on shop floor.

    Tesco

    Customer Assistant

During the COVID-19 pandemic I decided to get a job at a local Tesco express. My role as a customer assistant involves working on the tills and restocking shelves to the quickest of my ability. The other responsibility at times is to keep an eye on the door to make sure that we only have a certain amount of people in at a time.

    Poole Borough Council

    Geographic Information System Officer

2 week placement opportunity to see how GIS is used within the local council. I was placed on a project to help map where all the graveyards were so that if someone needed to find a loved one then we would be able to look on QGIS and locate them. This involved going out to graveyard sites to map with pen and pencil where each grave was using a new sectioning and number system and then coming back to the office and using QGIS creating a grid system and plotting the graves in the right location.
While I was at the council I was also invited to meetings about different aspects of the council for me to see how GIS is used in every part of day to day life.

    Projects Abroad

    Volunteer

A marine diving and shark conservation project in Pacific harbour, Fiji. My role was a volunteer research assistant, so this would mean helping out the staff so they could complete their roles to the highest standard. We would help out with converting the data that had been collected through survey dives (all volunteers would also take part in survey dives where we were looking for specific indicator fish, sharks, rays and turtles). Other roles we would help in were the mangroves, tending to them and rehabilitating them into local villages, and tagging of juvenile sharks.

  • 2017 - 2019
    Links of London

    Sales Assistant

As a sales assistant my main role was greeting customers when they walked through the doors, making sure they were okay and providing help when necessary, showing them and letting them try on certain pieces they wanted to, boxing and sometimes gift wrapping the box so they looked presentable to the client and using the tills to sell the pieces of jewellery to the client. I would also help restock the back stock and replace missing display pieces.

I also took part in a numerous amount of cycle counts which were counting the amount of back stock and then comparing it to what our files say. This was done once a week and each week a different department would be done, i.e necklaces one week and bracelets the next.

Finally I also helped out with night shifts which included a stock take which was similar to a cycle count but all departments would be done in one night. This was hard work but commitment to my job meant I was willing to do it.

    Projects Abroad

    Volunteer

Volunteer work based around the protection of sea turtles on the west coast of Mexico. My main roles included: cleaning turtles tanks, feeding and cleaning the baby turtles, night patrols looking along the beach for turtles laying eggs, incubating turtle eggs that were found and finally releasing baby turtles back into the oceans.

Skills I gained whilst in Mexico on this project were time management, as every morning we would have to be ready to leave our base camp at a certain time, problem solving and management, as when we had a problem such as a turtle not laying it’s eggs we would have to try to think of a way of fixing it, finally I gained communication as I had to communicate with the other volunteers so we could get the work done quickly and effectively.
