Education

  • 2016 - 2018
    National University of Singapore

Master’s Degree, Applied Geographic Information Systems

Thesis titled, 'The Impacts of Building Configuration on Land Surface Temperature'. Extracted and processed data from various sources to achieve research objectives. Made use of Landsat imagery to obtain land surface temperature data. Two- and three-dimensional housing type characteristics were quantitatively described with landscape ecology and building configuration indices. These indices were then used to carry out statistical and correlation analyses on land surface temperature using SPSS. Carried out another independent mini project titled, 'Biodiversity Richness in Natural and Artificial Rocky Shores of Singapore'. The study compared: i) the species richness between two rocky shore sites, natural and artificial ii) the species richness at different shore types within the two sites.

  • 2012 - 2013
    James Cook University

Bachelor's Degree, Business and Environmental Science

Carried out an independent case study titled, \'What are the factors affecting the success of waste-to-energy (WTE) technologies as a sustainable method of managing municipal solid waste?\'. This study examined the success factors and barriers faced by different countries, namely Sweden and India, in using incineration as a sustainable method of managing municipal waste.

  • 2008 - 2011
    Singapore Polytechnic

    Diploma, BiotechnologyDiploma, Biotechnology

Final year project titled, \'Ex situ Conservation of an Endangered Plant\'. In this project, comparisons were made on the effectiveness of various potting media on vegetative propagation of Geophila repens and germination frequencies in vitro and in soil. A surface sterilization protocol for explants was also developed.

  • 2017 - 2017
    Conservation International

    GIS Intern

Interned at CI Greater Mekong for two months.

Compared different satellite imagery available, and found out which source best fulfills CI\’s requirements. With this imagery, did change detection analysis to identify potential deforested areas, and land use/cover classification to identify different land use/cover types. This was carried out using ArcMap and QGIS. The workflows were documented so that the steps could be replicated by other staff.

In addition to that, visualized conservation areas that are under CI\’s management using maps. Worked with the GIS manager to revamp their database and drafted a protocol document for using and maintaining the database.

  • 2011 - 2012
    National Biodiversity Centre

    Plant Conservation (Contract Staff)

Went on field surveys to collect plant samples. Selected plant species samples were propagated and regularly monitored.

Assisted in the monitoring of selected sites of rare and endangered plant species under the plant conservation program. Tasks included updating and analysis of salvaged and redistributed plants database.

Created a document library/database and collated relevant literature on climate change in relation to forestry and forestry-related issues.

Carried out administrative duties such as data entry and provided support in the preparation of workshops and meetings.
