My Leaving Certificate Construction Studies project illustrates a cross sectional model of a Scandinavian Passivhaus. The model highlights both substructure & superstructure stages of the build. This system demonstrates an insulated ‘Supergrund’ foundation utilising expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulated concrete formwork (ICF) technology. The masonry wall is insulated externally. All air tightness detailing of the building envelope is shown by the model. This aids the dwelling in achieving the required passive standard U-Value of less than 0.15 W/m2K with minimal heat loss to the surroundings.
