My Leaving Certificate Construction Studies project illustrates a cross sectional model of a Scandinavian Passivhaus. The model highlights both substructure & superstructure stages of the build. This system demonstrates an insulated ‘Supergrund’ foundation utilising expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulated concrete formwork (ICF) technology. The masonry wall is insulated externally. All air tightness detailing of the building envelope is shown by the model. This aids the dwelling in achieving the required passive standard U-Value of less than 0.15 W/m2K with minimal heat loss to the surroundings.

Responsibilities & duties of the role include:

Setting out of all site elements including utilities, drainage, strip foundations, masonry units & kerb lines for slip form.
Site level control.
Managing material & human resources.
Conducting as built surveys & producing AutoCAD drawings of undertaken work.
Mapping legal boundaries for land registry prior to property sales.
Sampling concrete, masonry units, mortar & documented fill material (T0, T1 Struc, T2 Perm, T3) for compliance testing.
Preparation of concrete cube & mortar specimens for compressive strength tests.
Updating & maintaining records and schedules of material testing.
Assessing rising wall masonry work prior to the installation of timber framing.
Conducting all checks on residential storm & foul drainage networks.
