About The Position

The Trainee Building Surveyor will provide services to assist Council’s Building Surveyors in carrying out their statutory functions in Council’s Planning, Environment and Regulatory Services Dept, while receiving on the job training and experience in this field, and whilst undertaking and completing paid studies. The Trainee Building Surveyor will develop the skills necessary to assess and determine applications received by Council under the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979 and related legislation, and participate in the carrying out of building inspections in regard to new building activity, so as to work toward and attain registration with Fair Trading NSW in the category of Building Surveyor – Restricted (Class 1 & 10 buildings).

About You

  • Willingness to obtain the appropriate qualification and relevant experience set out in the Building & Development Certifiers Regulation 2020, that would enable registration with Fair Trading NSW in the category of Building Surveyor – Restricted (Class 1 & 10 buildings).
  • Ability to meet the course entry requirements for NVR approved skill set CPCSS00005 – Provide Building Surveying Services for Residential Buildings up to Three Storeys.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, including the capacity to work to deadlines and set priorities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in various computer software (e.g. word processing packages, database, spreadsheet and email applications).
  • Current Class C or Provisional driver license.
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card) or willingness to obtain.
  • Demonstrated experience and/or capability to deliver the Job Specific Key Accountabilities (outlined in the Position Description).
  • Demonstrated Developed key capabilities as defined in the Key Capabilities Table (outlined in the Position Description).

We offer

  • Building Surveyor Traineeship opportunity available to be completed on a full-time basis, for the duration of a 3 year term contract, at 35 hours per week.
  • The opportunity to complete the skill set CPCSS00005 – Provide Building Surveying Services for Residential Buildings up to Three Storeys (a requirement of this role).
  • Salary is dependent on qualifications, skills and experience
  • Plus 11.5% superannuation
  • Access to Indoor Accrued Time (Flexi)
